Corporate Innovation and Design Experience MBA Programme

For the past two years I have had a part time role as a Visiting Executive lecturer of design at the Darden School Business, a leading management programme in the US. I contribute to curriculum design and teaching of design and innovation topics for MBA students.

Working in collaboration with Professor Jeanne Liedtka, I have helped to develop a course called Corporate Innovation and Design Experience, which is an elective open to second year MBA students. The course focuses on exploring and using design thinking and innovation principles and tools to foster business model innovation. Students are introduced to core design skills such as visualisation, prototyping, and storytelling, in addition to learning about the design process and methods. As part of the coursework, students complete design projects sponsored by corporate clients.

Working in teams, students undertake a real-world business problem or opportunity space and utilise a design approach aimed at providing customer insights, deep concept thinking, and prototypes for specific innovation opportunities. Through these projects, students have the opportunity to experiment with new design practices in a highly relevant way. Corporate sponsors include Fortune 500 companies such as Whirlpool, Marriott, Xerox, Medtronic, Mars, and Walmart.
